Workshop Agenda:

“The Pitfalls of Background Screening in the World of Class Action Suits (and Best Practices to Avoid Them)"

Terrie will present an overview of best practices regarding background checks and what NOT to do by looking at examples of some of the most recent cases. She will also provide best practices to help stay compliant with Federal, State, and NY City Background Check Laws and the “reputational risk” involved for staffing firms with FCRA lawsuits.

Speaker:  Terrie Leach, Eastern Regional Sale Manager, AccuSource, Inc.

Terrie has been involved in employment background screening, drug testing and MVR monitoring into Human Resources, Risk Management and safety Departments since 2004. She has experience working with small medium and Fortune 1000 companies in various industries, including but not limited to, Not for Profit, Staffing, Transportation, Construction, IT, Hospitality and Finance. Terrie is knowledgeable with HIPPA and FCRA laws, DOT regulations, and pre-security clearance requirements in addition to specific and general industry standards.

“Evolving Legal Issues for Staffing Firms”

Roxanne Levine will cover Immigration Compliance and I-9, Paid Medical Leave, Social Media Risks, and what NOT to ask in an interview or on your application.

Richard Steer will cover paid and unpaid medical leaves, WHAT NOT TO ASK on applications or in interviews (including implementing the new NYC laws prohibiting questions on salary history, unemployment and criminal convictions.)

Roxanne H. Levine is a Partner in the Immigration Practice Group at Tarter Krinsky & Drogin LLP. She has over 25 years of experience representing major multinational financial institutions, corporations, universities, cultural institutions, energy companies and the hospitality industry. She also represents individuals, including entrepreneurs, artists, performers and entertainers.

Rich Steer is a Partner in Tarter Krinsky & Drogin’s Labor and Employment Practice Group and Heads the firm’s EPLI practice area. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University.
